Do we have a financial responsibility to help non-members?
No, our responsibility is primarily for those who have committed to being members.
What process should be followed to provide members with financial aid?
Any person applying for material assistance has to be a member of the church for 6 months or longer (see paragraph 6 of the constitution), they must also be willing to:
- – submit a written request for the assistance
- – submit himself to financial assessment (‘means test’)
- – be interviewed by the financial committee
- – be accountable to the financial committee or designated member of financial committee, or another designated person once a month
- – repay the church in the event of him/her being able to do so at a specified date if the situation so requires (must express a willingness to “pass on the gift”)

What should be done in the case of a church member having a longterm/ongoing need for financial assistance?
A person struggling on an ongoing basis has to go through same process as mentioned in the previous section. This is so that we can ascertain where the problem areas are (might need counsel from businessmen, other job, and so forth)
How should we facilitate the process whereby church members would like to provide for those experiencing financial need?
Sowing should be anonymous to protect the relationships among church members. We would like to protect people from a feeling of obligation / embarrassment toward others. Honour the Acts principle – bring the gifts to the feet of the apostles, for them to distribute among the needy.
No material amounts of money or assets should change hands between members of the church – if people want to sow into others’ lives they need to do it through the office (the bodyserve bank account).
